MY LITTLE ENLIGHTENMENT PLAYS is a multimedia project by Sophie Seita centred around three experimental performance pieces: 1. Don Carlos, or, Royal Jelly; 2. Les Bijoux Indiscrets, or, Paper Tigers; 3. Emilia Galotti’s Colouring Book of Feelings — all of which present imaginary tête-a-têtes with Enlightenment thinkers, writers, and scientists.

 

 

 

 

Sophie Seita is a London-based artist, writer, and researcher whose work explores text in its various translations into book objects, performances, videos, or other languages and embodiments. She works internationally on multiple projects; most recently and together with Naomi Woo she’s co-created a community-oriented public art project and talk-show opera, rooted in speculative and collaborative research on queer and feminist gardeners. She’s performed or exhibited her work at [ SPACE ], La MaMa Galleria (NYC), Bold Tendencies, the Arnolfini, JNU (New Delhi), Kettle’s Yard, Parasol Unit, Flat Time House, Art Night London, Kunsthalle Darmstadt (Germany), Taller Bloc (Santiago de Chile) and elsewhere, and has received funding and fellowships from the British Council, Canada Council, Creative Scotland, a-n, Dover Prize at Darlington, Yale, Princeton, Columbia University, Cambridge University, PEN America, Lambeth City Council, among others. Her latest books are: My Little Enlightenment Plays (Pamenar Press, 2020), The Gracious Ones (Earthbound Press, 2020), and Provisional Avant-Gardes (Stanford University Press, 2019).
